Circle the Med: A Premier Platform for Global Dialogue

Circle Med Forum has long served as a critical platform for dialogue and cooperation on environmental diplomacy within the Mediterranean. Now, as it prepares for its 8th Edition in June 2025, the Forum is poised to expand its global reach, engaging with leaders across continents to advance the green energy transition, promote climate resilience, and support sustainable economic growth. The Forum’s commitment to fostering dialogue across regions will continue to inspire actionable solutions to the world’s most urgent environmental challenges.

Pre-COP29 Dialogue: A Critical Moment for Climate Diplomacy

In preparation for the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), Circle Med Forum will host a high-level pre-COP29 online dialogue on October 31, 2024. Mr. Papandreou announced officially this event during a meeting of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center with former heads of state at the Harvard Club in New York on the sidelines of the 2024 UN General Assembly, gathering key global actors to discuss the intersection of climate justice, regional cooperation, and sustainable economic transformation.

“At this pivotal moment, we must recognize that climate justice is not just a moral imperative but the foundation for a truly effective global response to climate change,” said Mr. Papandreou. “Through multilateral collaboration and regional cooperation, we can inspire bold global ambition and demonstrate that the green transition must be both inclusive and equitable. Circle the Med Forum will be a key platform for fostering this dialogue and driving global solutions.”

The pre-COP29 dialogue will provide a space for discussing strategies to achieve global climate goals, focusing on building partnerships that can advance the green transition and promote economic and environmental resilience.

A Vision for a Sustainable Future

Circle Med Forum aligns with major global initiatives such as the European Green Deal, the five EC Missions (Climate Neutrality, Climate Adaptation and Resilience, Restore our Oceans, Healthy Soil, Cancer implementation plan) and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, emphasizing that the green and digital transitions must be socially inclusive and just. The Forum will continue to focus on critical topics such as sustainable energy, inclusive growth, green shipping, cultural protection and technological innovation, while promoting solutions that integrate economic recovery with environmental sustainability.

As Circle the Med Forum expands its global reach, it will play an increasingly pivotal role in shaping the international discourse on climate diplomacy, uniting voices to foster collaborative action and drive transformative change.

Mr. Papandreou will lead a high-level International Advisory Board, to be announced soon, composed of leaders, experts, and innovators from various sectors. Their collective expertise will guide the Forum's mission to advance climate neutrality, environmental resilience, and sustainable economic growth.
