Adélaïde Charlier
Co-founder of #YouthForClimate

My name is Adélaïde Charlier, I’m 19, and I define myself as a climate and Human rights activist. I am a co-organizer of the movement Youth for Climate. I am a Belgian teenager like a thousand others of this generation Z (born after the year 2000).

It has now been almost 2 years that I have organized actions, marches, occupations, ... on a national and European level. I understood throughout the year, but especially when I sailed to the Amazon forest during a stay of a few weeks at the end of 2019, that climate change is strongly linked to human rights. If we want to protect the environment that allows us to live, we must save the people who protect it. In our world, everything is linked.

I have crossed the Atlantic ocean with 35 change makers by sailing boat with a project called Sail to the Cop. Our goal was to reach the COP25 in Chile without stepping on a plane to bring a strong message to our leaders. Once we arrived in South America, I had the chance to attend a summit in the Amazon Forest in Brazil. This meeting was uniting scientists, activists from all around the world, but most importantly, indigenous communities.

Today I am at University in Brussels, still very active in the mouvement. I am also a special advisor for Mr? Timmermans (vice-president of the EU commission).

I will never stop fighting for a just transition toward a neutral in CO2 world.
