Costas Kadis is the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans. In this role, he is responsible for advancing a resilient, competitive and sustainable European fisheries and aquaculture sector, while supporting coastal communities and strengthening Europe’s global leadership on ocean governance. His mandate includes the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy, the development of a long-term vision for the fisheries sector, the promotion of sustainable fisheries partnerships, and initiatives to restore ocean health. Before joining the European Commission, he served as Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Minister of Education and Culture, and Minister of Health in Cyprus, while also holding senior academic positions in biodiversity conservation and nature protection.
