HERIT ADAPT Final Conference Heritage Resilience in Action: Setting the Strategic Agenda for a Climate-Ready and Digitally Transformed Mediterranean Tourism Future
Angelika Sauermost is a tourism development and European project management expert, with strong expertise in quality management, sustainable transition, and innovation in tourism. She has extensive experience in team leadership and project coordination across cultural, quality and sustainable tourism, with a particular focus on climate change adaptation and tourism flow management.
Her career began with the design and management of tourism development programmes for heritage preservation and cultural routes, implemented at regional and European levels through several Interreg MED projects. She later strongly contributed in Occitanie/ France, for over 15 years, to a national Tourism Quality Programme in France, contributing to policy implementation, stakeholder coordination, and quality systems at scale. Over 1500 tourism businesses have been trained and certified.
As a consultant within a European Twinning Programme in Tunisia, she supported the Tunisian National Tourism Board building a national quality tourism label, with a French - Austrian - Tunisian team, through the development of quality audits, assessment tools, training programmes, and strategic recommendations.
More recently, as Director for Quality and Sustainable Transition in Tourism, and now as head of the European development department at the Regional Economic and Tourism Agency, she has coordinated and contributed to EU projects addressing climate change adaptation (Herit-Adapt EuroMED), overtourism prevention and data-driven tourism flows (Herit-Data MED), and sustainable agritourism in rural areas (Agrotour Sudoe), consistently integrating quality, sustainability, and innovation into tourism practices.
