Apostolos Tzitzikostas
President of the European Committee of the Regions

Apostolos Tzitzikostas was born on September 2, 1978. He studied Political Science, Foreign Policy and Diplomacy at Georgetown University in Washington. He gained his first work experience in the Office of the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Congress. He completed his studies with a postgraduate degree in European Public Administration and Economics at University College of London. In 2002 he set up his own company in the field of production, processing and standardization of dairy products based on organic standards.

In the national elections of September 2007, he was elected Member of Parliament for the First Electoral District of Thessaloniki. In the Regional Elections of November 2010, he was elected Deputy Regional Governor of Central Macedonia - Deputy Regional Governor of Thessaloniki. In the Regional Elections of May 2014, he was elected Regional Governor of Central Macedonia. In the elections of May 2019, he was re-elected Governor of Central Macedonia. In November 2019 he was elected President of the Union of Regions of Greece.

Since 2015 he is a member of the European Committee of the Regions. In July 2017, he was elected Head of the Greek Delegation and Vice President of the European Committee of the Regions. In February 2020 he was elected President of the European Committee of the Regions.

He speaks English and French and his articles are often published in newspapers and magazines in Greece and abroad.
