Dr. Petros Varelidis is Secretary General of Natural Environment and Waters of the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
He studied chemical engineering at E.M.P.. and holds a PhD in composite materials and recycling.
He is also a graduate of the School of Organization and Business Administration of the Athens University of Economics and Business.
He has been an advisor to the political leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Energy since 2009.
Since December 2019, he represents Greece on the Board of Directors of the European Environment Agency.
In the period 2016 - 2021 he was the Director of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization (former National Center for Environment and Sustainable Development).
During the periods 2005 - 2009 and 2013 - 2015, he was Environmental Attaché at the Permanent Representation of Greece in the EU.
From 2012 to 2013, during the preparation and duration of the Cyprus Presidency in the Council of the EU, he served, as Environmental Attaché, in the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the EU.
