Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Cyprus

Her Excellency Ambassador Tamara Weingerl Požar was appointed to the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Cyprus in November and December 2022
respectively.
She has more than 24 years of professional experience on EU and International Affairs, including on EU policies of Enlargement, Energy and Environment.
She has worked in Brussels at the Permanent Representation of Slovenia to the EU for more than 11 years. In particular, she was involved in both Slovenia & EU Council Presidencies in 2021 and 2008. She held the post of Ambassador – Deputy Permanent Representative (Coreper 1) from 2018 to 2022 and chaired Coreper 1 during the 2021 Slovenian EU Council Presidency. She was a Counsellor at the EU Working Party on Enlargement from 2006 to 2012 and dealt with Croatia and Turkey accession negotiations. During the Slovenian 2008 EU Presidency she chaired the Enlargement Working Party and Working Party on the follow up to the Council Conclusions on Cyprus.

From 2013 to 2018 she was Energy Coordinator at the Slovenian Foreign Ministry in Ljubljana and from 2003 to 2006 she was Head of the Department
for EU coordination II at the Slovenian Government Office for European Affairs.
Ambassador has a Bachelor Degree in Political Sciences – International Relations from the University of Ljubljana and a Master of Philosophy in
International Relations from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
She is fluent in Slovenian (mother tongue), English, Italian, French and Croatian.
Ambassador is married and has two daughters.
