Johan Robbens

Johan Robbens PhD MBA has a master in Biotechnology and a PhD in Molecular Biology from Ghent University in Belgium. He did hold Post-doc positions at Ghent University (Belgium) and University Antwerp (Belgium). He has expertise in different area’s: genomics, proteomics, (environmental) toxicology, Food Integrity and Blue Biotechnology.

At this moment he works at ILVO- Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, were he is head of the Blue Biotech unit and of the Food Integrity unit. He also holds a position at University Antwerp in the Department Biology. At ILVO he is member of the Steering Group ‘BioEconomy’ and of the Center of Expertise for Agriculture and Climate

Within the Blue Biotechnolgy area, he is involved in several project at regional, National and European level. He coordinates the Intereg 2 Seas project ValgOrize and the Eranet Marine Biotechnology project Blueshell. He is partner in the Interreg 2 seas project Horti-BlueC, in the Eranet Blue Bio project BlueCC. He is member of the management committee of the COST action Ocean4Biotech. In Seafoodtomorrow (H2020) he is WPleader and head of the IPR-committee.

Johan Robbens has several degrees in management. He holds a Postgraduate Management and a Master in Portfolio Management. He also holds an MBA from Vlerick Leuven Gent Management school. At Ghent University, he also obtained a certificate ‘Intellectual Property’.
