Ussama Rai is serving as a director of PV & ESS service solutions at Huawei to oversee its operations across the UK and Western Europe. He has extensive cross-sector experience in publicly quoted and private equity backed organizations in the fields of engineering, project management, operations, and services, with a focus on energy generation through CHPs, renewables, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Having previously worked for several multinational companies in Europe and the UK, Ussama established himself as a respected and seasoned leader within these organizations by leading engineering, services, operations, and delivery teams with over 20 years’ experience. He established and managed several successful B2B relationships with clients and partner companies, delivering efficacious energy generation and energy storage projects, and identified vital commercial opportunities to drive the rapid transformation and improvement in services and developed analytical approaches to support growth. He has participated in several forums and conferences to represent his organizations.

Ussama is a Fellow chartered member of Engineers Australia and a Chartered Electrical Engineer from the Institution of Engineering &Technology, UK. He is also a member of various other prestigious professional engineering bodies across the globe. He obtained a first class bachelor degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST), Pakistan in 2003 and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with power electronics from the university of Bradford, UK in 2006. He successfully completed a two-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) research and development program in the field of robotics and automation from the University of Leeds, UK in 2008.

Currently, he is pursuing a PhD from Imperial College London, UK on a scholarship in the field of demand response for smart energy grid applications in the context of energy transitions. Additionally, he serves as a mentor for young engineers through the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) in the UK on a voluntary basis.

Ussama is an avid reader of history, politics, future technologies, and biographies. He is an enthusiastic traveller and speaks four languages.
